As the winter drags on I am dreaming about these lovely pastel colors and anxiously awaiting spring time. The pairing on this wonderful lavender and soft yellow by Topshop are divine. The soft gray tote bag is also on my Spring must have list. I also like the cats eye eyeliner on the one model, it give a little bit of edge to her otherwise soft sweet look.
The approaching Spring season calls for not only a wardrobe restructuring for many of us but it is also Prom season for many young ladies. I have fond memories of my own experiences shopping for prom dresses and homecoming dresses. It is for many, their first time having to buy formal dresses and one of the most exciting dress shopping experiences. Create your own dynamic red carpet experience by taking a few tricks from the stars. When buying a formal dress always keep your particular body shape in mind. Choose a dress that has a flattering silhoutte and fabric that doesn’t cling or bunch. If you are considering short prom dresses make sure to try sitting on a chair in the dressing room as dresses that are too short may expose more than you had hoped while seated forcing you to stand in your 4” heels all night. Ouch! Shoes are probably the most important accessory of the night and can make or break your evening. When buying heels make sure to walk around in them for at least ten minutes. If you feel any pinching or rubbing find another pair. And don’t forget to wear them around the house in the weeks to come before your big night. One of the worst fashion mistakes I made was wearing a new pair of heels that were slightly too small to a formal event. I have never been so uncomfortable! And don’t forget to get a second opinion on your dress as a best friend or even your mom can help you choose the dress that is most flattering.

One of my favorite colors in fashion right now is teal. Teal is the green blue color found in Peacock feathers. It has luminous jewel tone and is somewhere in between blue and green. It adds a nice richness to outfits, especially this time of year where colors tend to be darker and more somber. A little hint of teal (or a lot) can brighten up the day. Whether you choose to add an accent piece or put together a totally teal outfit (it works really!) teal is a great choice. It also is one of those colors that looks good in both lighter weight materials like silk and chiffon as well as heavier knits and wools. And don’t forget to capitalize on this years colored denim trend and get some teal jeans like the ones pictured from J Brand. They can be a nice change up from the traditional dark blue denim wash. Teal also makes a fun home accent color and goes especially well with bright green like in this butterfly pillow. Teal can also be a great accent color for weddings. Teal wedding invitations (try the teal and green combo here too) can set a festive tone for an outdoor or tropical wedding.

It’s that time of the year again and I can’t decide whether to buy boots or spring sandals. There have been some great boot sales lately, whether you are looking for riding boots, ankle boots or rainboots you can get great deals on boots and women’s shoe sale as stores look to clear out inventory in anticipation of Spring arrivals. But after months of seeing black, gray and brown boots in the shops I am finding myself pining for spring sandals in fun pastel colors, metallics and floral prints. Again this 2012 spring season we will be seeing sky high heights and a multitude of patterns, prints and graphics. The wedge, always a favorite is back again this Spring with many different textures including cork, wood, one of my personal favorites the espadrille. But for those of you who are longing for the comfort of flatter days I am happy to say there will be a lot of flat options this Spring too. Many pretty taupes, pinks and nude tones to choose from with feminine cutouts and detailing. One of my favorite trends which is which is picking up steam this Spring is pattern on pattern shoes. By having a mix of patterns on the straps and wedge of the shoe your footwear becomes a statement piece with a quirky, bohemian feel. So instead of matching your shoe to your outfit you end up creating your outfit around the shoe. Don’t go overboard with the patterns and color though. A simple white cotton dress or cropped skinny jeans will do the trick.
